High school seniors are about to enter adulthood and leave their childhoods behind. They’re wearing backpacks with beloved childhood characters on them to commemorate their childhood. The Senior backpack trend is something that started to surface on social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram in 2023 – 2024. This trend is a cute and fun way for seniors to express themselves in their last year of high school. Let’s take a look at some of Bay View’s seniors participating in this trend.
Paige Schwinn – Spiderman Backpack
Paige wants people to know that she is much nicer than they may think. I will say that in my personal interview with her, she seemed wonderful to talk to and was extremely sweet. When asked about why she chose her backpack, she recounted her childhood when she would dress up with her cousins as Spiderman characters and play around. After high school, she is thinking about becoming a physical therapist. She wants to attend the University of Houston. When asked why this specific college, she explained she had family near there who she would want to be closer to.
Isela Hemandez – Strawberry Shortcake Backpack
Isela loves Strawberry Shortcake; she’s got a strawberry shortcake phone case, a strawberry shortcake lip gloss, and now a strawberry shortcake backpack! The backpack reminds her of the one she had as a kindergartener. Funny how that comes full circle, right? After high school, she is considering multiple options, like going to college for nursing or even joining the military. She seems like she would make a great nurse, as she is used to taking care of others. Her grandpa, whom she has cared for since she was young, is her best friend.
Sarai Bufford – Bluey Backpack
Sarai likes her backpack because it is sparkly. Her favorite childhood show was Elmo. She seemed uncertain about where she wanted to go to college, but knows she wants to go into business.
Brianna Porter – Goku Backpack
Brianna chose her backpack because it is unique; no one has that backpack. As a kid, her favorite show was Dora the Explorer. After
high school, she plans on going to trade school for welding. She is thinking of going to MATC, but is also leaving her options open.
Britney Juarez Salgado – Batman Back pack
Britney started getting into Batman a while ago, more specifically, his sidekicks and background. She says, “She finds it more
interesting than other DC heroes she’s seen.” When thinking about what her backpack would be for this school year, Batman was the only thing she could think of. Batman may be the perfect match for her, though, because when asked about her plans after high school, she expressed her interest in Criminology. Ideally, she would go to Carthage or Marquette, where she can study Criminal Justice, Criminology, and would like to be a CSI (Crime Scene Investigator)
Stazia Hackett – Minecraft Backpack
During Stazia’s childhood, her favorite TV show was Yo Gabba Gabba. She also played Minecraft and still plays it to this day. Stazia is planning on going to college later in the future/after high school, to study to become a veterinarian, but her end goal is to become a surgeon.
Daquell Dates – Harry Potter Backpack
Quell is a unique person, so he wanted to have a unique backpack for this school year. Despite having a Gryffindor backpack, Quell thinks he personally would be a Hufflepuff. After high school, he plans on attending college for architecture. He has also expressed his interest in fashion and hopes he can incorporate it into his college experience. His favorite childhood show is The Amazing World of Gumball.
As you can see, our seniors are looking forward to bright futures. This is the last year of their childhood, and this is how they choose to commemorate it. These fun backpacks give us a look into the seniors’ unique personalities and interests. Hopefully, next year’s seniors can live up to these fun and lively backpacks.
