Every morning at Bay View High School, the Recat Brew springs into action for the staff! This hands-on experience helps students gain valuable job skills, such as customer service, cashiering, and restocking merchandise, that support our growth toward independence. When the cart rolls to the teacher’s classroom, the student baristas check whether you have your own cup or need one of ours.
Teachers love to order delicious treats like the gooey chocolatey Nutella Puff Pastry Twists or M&M Cookies. For those needing a caffeine boost, Pike Place is a popular choice, though we also have other brands such as Colectivo and Stone Creek available. Others prefer an Iced Coffee with brown sugar and caramel syrup. If you want something cozy, you can order a 12-oz tea, such as green, black, chai, or ginger tea, or a cup of warm apple cider.
Later this month, our class is going on a joyful field trip to The Inclusive Bean in Racine! We are so excited to do a “coffee takeover,” where we will step behind the counter and show off our barista skills in a real shop. We will practice greeting customers and making sure every drink is “Brewed with happiness.” It will be exciting to see how a professional shop creates a welcoming community for people of all abilities. Our favorite part will definitely be cooperating with the regular trainees and maybe even trying a banana or vanilla latte.
We can’t wait to show everyone that we are conscientious workers!
